Backpack Blessing Mission Statement – To provide a simple solution to a basic need that is not adequately met for many area children — food. To identify students who are food insecure and provide them with kid-friendly food that is distributed discreetly at school at the end of each week.
Plan, support, purchase and provide Christmas for children
identified by counselors at Sanders.
20 children are identified by the Social workers and Counselors
at Sanders to participate. These are children that have fallen through the
cracks and don't have adequate support for Christmas Cheer. We provided a bag
full of gifts, and also scarves, gloves and hats for the kids. We host them
during a Rotary function and the munch on chicken fingers and cookies, pay a
visit to Santa and his elves, get their goodies and their picture while
Rotarians entertain them with Christmas BINGO and song, magic and merry making.
Partner project with Rotary Clubs and local resort in Cancun Mexico. We send volunteers and financial support for the project to provide much needed school supplies for special needs schools in Cancun and surrounding Islands.
The total amount cash donations was $3700 from all the clubs, along with individual families staying at the resort hotels who were curious about the project when it was shared with them by Rotary members of each club.
Essay contest for critical thinking and expression - cash award for students at Garrett Middle
Essay is to be written on their understanding of The Rotary annual theme
The 6th., 7th. and 8th. grade English classes student participate in this project and there is a 1,2,3 place winner from each grade level. We hold an awards luncheon for the student, his/her teacher, family members and school support staff.
