Sandy Springs Police Chief - Ken DeSimone

Monday, March 6th, the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs had the pleasure of hearing Sandy Springs Police Chief Ken DeSimone speak about the latest updates from our Police Force.

Chief DeSimone brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to the position. Chief DeSimone previously served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in Charlotte, North Carolina. His assignments have included uniform patrol, investigations, training, waterborne enforcement, street crimes unit, Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), organized crime and intelligence units. Chief DeSimone served as the Deputy Chief of the Sandy Springs Police Department for 4 1/2 years before being promoted to Chief of Police in 2013.

Chief DeSimone mentioned that Sandy Springs Police Department currently has 148 sworn police officers and is close to a full roster, a very rare feat for any Police Department in today's environment.

If you would like to say Thank You to the Police Officers and Firefighters of Sandy Springs, please consider donating to the Sandy Springs Police Benevolent Fund by clicking here. The Sandy Springs Police Benevolent Fund is a non-profit 501(c) (3) charitable organization that was founded to foster and enhance the quality of life for the members of the City of Sandy Springs Police and Fire Departments and other local public safety organizations. The Fund is designed to help law enforcement officers and family in times of crisis.

Thank you for all you do for the Sandy Springs community Chief DeSimone!

Next Meeting
Mayor of Sandy Springs - Rusty Paul

Join us on Monday, March 13th, as we welcome Mayor Rusty Paul to the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs to hear about the latest and greatest going on in our Community.

Elected mayor in November 2013, Russell K. (Rusty) Paul brings more than 40 years of federal, state and local public policy and public administration experience to the job. He is currently serving his third term.

Mr. Paul was elected to the founding city council for Sandy Springs in November 2005 and served one term. He chaired the city’s charter review commission and the Sandy Springs Development Authority.

He was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate as Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations in the first Bush Administration under Secretary Jack Kemp. Secretary Kemp also appointed him acting Assistant Secretary of Community Planning and Development and tapped him to oversee the department’s disaster response to Hurricane Hugo and the 1989 San Francisco earthquake.

He received the Secretary’s Golden Eagle Award, the highest honor a cabinet officer can bestow.

Besides his stints in federal government, Mr. Paul is a former Georgia State Senator and also served on the Stone Mountain City Council and served three terms on the Georgia Municipal Association board of directors.

In 1995, he was elected chairman of the Georgia Republican Party and served on the Republican National Committee, where RNC Chair Jim Nicholson appointed him to chair the State Chairman’s Advisory Committee.

He is a past chairman of the Sandy Springs/Perimeter Center Chamber of Commerce and a member of Sandy Springs Rotary. He and his wife, Jan, are parents of five adult children and attend Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.
