The LaGrange Rotary Club partnered with United Way, Success By 6 and the Troup County School System and provided a soft-cover book to every Pre-K student in Troup County, all 725 of them in both public and private schools. The books were purchased through First Book so that we were able to pay just $3.15 for a beautiful soft cover book with a retail price of $6.99. We also purchased a blue book bag with “Read with ME!” the Rotary logo and the UW Success By 6 logos printed on them for each child as well and the “WoW! SchOOl!” books were placed in the bags. When the books arrived, a label was attached to each book identifying the book as a gift from LaGrange Rotary Club and United Way Success By 6, along with a letter to the child’s parent (s) from our club President and the Coordinator of United Way Success By 6 was placed inside the front cover.
This is the fifth year we have done this specific program. This year Rotarians delivered ALL the books, to public and private Pre-K programs and whenever possible read the books to the classes. The response was amazing! This year our club received numerous thank you cards from teachers and students and even School Superintendent Cole Pugh. Some teachers and students even made thank you books featuring their favorite things about the book.
Club Contribution: $1,000, District Grant: $2000 and United Way Success By 6: $80.48.
"And we even get to take the book home with us."
Rotarian Judy Freeman takes the time to read to a class of Pre-K students.
Rotarian Amy Warren takes her turn making a difference in the day of some of Troup County's future leaders.
President-Elect George Henry spent a few hours delivering books and reading to the children.
The goal of this program is to help kids get excited about reading and school. This young student demonstrates to Rotarian Sonny Boggus that she defiantly understands the program.
